Pryme Boers
South African Boer Goats
Mainly used for meat production, the Boer breed originated in South Africa. Strong muscling and rapid weight gain make Boers a superior meat goat. A fast growing industry, Boer meat is widely considered the finest of all chevon (goat meat). Many people are now catching on to the benefits of chevon. It is a red meat that has less than half of the fat of beef and about forty percent less saturated fat than chicken. Chevon can be prepared in a variety of ways and is enjoyed by a wide range of ethnicities worldwide.
Boers make both a practical and a pleasant presence on the farm. They are very manageable and docile and a hardy breed that adapts well to a variety of living and climate conditions. Boer bucks also make a great cross on several of the dairy breeds, producing fast gaining offspring with large frames and lots of milk.
For both the seasoned and the novice goatkeeper, Boers are a wonderful choice!

The Pryme Herd
We currently run about 30 registered does along with a handful of good commercial does and junior does continuously coming up into the breeding herd. At the moment we have three outstanding Boer bucks that we are breeding with, imported from the U.S., consisting of the best genetics out there. We continue to source the best animals in the industry for our growing operation.
We are continuing to build a quality herd that consists of superb animals. We will steadily be increasing our herd with hombred animals as well as key animals that we purchase from other top herds in the industry. At the same time we will also offer some of our best offspring for sale in order to share our success with other breeders.
We pride ourselves on top notch management, record keeping and herd operations. We pay stong attention to detail specific to each animal in our herd. It is important to us that each animal in our herd and each animal we sell has the best of care and circumstances neccessary for top performance.
Our goats are on a consistent vaccination and deworming schedule and constant attention is paid to any health changes in the goats as we take a great deal of pride in maintaining a happy and healthy herd.
Our goats are nourished with a grain ration of corn, mixed grains, and other supplements. We mix and grind our own feed on the farm and add the appropriate amount of mineral and selenium salt to our mixture. Our goats are grained year round and are fed good quality hay. 'Pryme' kids have constant access to free choice premium creep feed. In the summer months the goats enjoy the benefits of lush pasture. Although we maintain a strong feed program, our belief is that excellent feeding needs to be coupled with excellent genetics. If the genetics aren't there, the big gains will not be either, regardless of the feed program.

We strive for does that kid out and raise their babies independently and efficiently. Upon weaning their kids, we want them to come back into condition quickly.
As we continue to build our herd, we are stratigically choosing bucks and does that come from lines of consistency, both in producing fast gaining offspring and in producing superior examples of the Boer breed. We require our goats to do as well on the pasture as they do in the showring. As time goes on we are also looking for bucks and does to consistently produce better offspring then themselves.
Our policy is to only offer breeding stock goats to our customers that we are confident in ourselves. The bottom line is, if we can't label it as "breeding stock", then it goes to market. Our reputation and our conscience drive our sales interactions. We get a great deal of enjoyment from seeing our customers thrive and build. We love the meat goat industry and are happy to contribute to helping it thrive.
Year to year we will be looking for distinct improvements over each crop of kids. Consistency is very important but so too is steady progression. Conforming to the breed standard is essential and culling hard will be prudent as we build an elite herd of show quality and breeding stock Boer goats. Our customers will be looking to Pryme Boers for new leaders in their herds, goats that we will be truly proud to put our 'Pryme' stamp on!
