Pryme Dairy Goats

Nubians

Developed in Great Britain, Nubians are a breed of goat meant mainly for dairy purposes, however they are found by many to be a very good dual purose animal. Although they do not produce the volume that other dairy breeds do, they do produce high components (especially butterfat) in their milk and are thought to consume less feed than other breeds in a commercial setting; making them quite efficient. These goats are large framed animals with roman noses and long pendulous ears. Nubians are a short haired and eye-catching breed that comes in a wide variety of colour patterns. They are generally easy to work with and love the attention of people. Being somewhat vocal and very comical Nubians tend to grow on people quickly and make a lovely addition to the herd.

Pryme Dairy Goats

At this point, we have a small herd of purebred registered Nubians. We have started our herd with a beautiful young buck "Shadow Vale Terrain's Merciful" and some very well bred doelings that all come from lines of exceptional classification scores and strong milkers. This spring we are adding several new doelings to our herd with a plan to build our Nubian numbers to about twenty outstanding does. With the genetic strength we are building in our dairy goat herd, our goal is to produce purebred breeding stock as well as cross some of these does with our Boer bucks. The strong mothering skills we have found in our dairy type does certainly make for a successful market kid program and we will likely add some other dairy breeds to the herd as time goes on as well to experiment with.
